NHS repeat prescriptions

Repeat prescriptions, handled with care.

Get your repeat medicines from us on Union Road: collect them, or have them delivered across Oswaldtwistle and Accrington. Prescriptions are free for many people, and the usual NHS charge applies otherwise.

Pay for your prescriptions?

In England each item costs £9.90. If you pay for a few, a prescription prepayment certificate covers all of them for one price. See if one would save you money.

Each medicine on your prescription is one item, every time you get it.

Paying for each item£257.40 a year

26 items a year at £9.90 each

12-month certificate£114.50 a year

Or 10 monthly payments of £11.45 by Direct Debit

A 12-month certificate would save you about £142.90 a year.

Buy a certificate from the NHS

You buy it from the NHS Business Services Authority, not from us. It covers every NHS prescription you get in England while it lasts.

  • Only need them for a few months?A 3-month certificate is £32.05. It pays for itself from 4 items in 3 months.
  • Only take HRT?An HRT certificate is £19.80 for 12 months. It covers certain HRT medicines only, not your other prescriptions.
You might not need to pay at all

Prescriptions are free in England if, for example, you:

  • are 60 or over, under 16, or 16 to 18 and in full-time education
  • are pregnant or have had a baby in the last 12 months, and have a maternity exemption certificate
  • have a medical condition on the NHS list, or a continuing physical disability that means you can’t go out without help, and a medical exemption certificate
  • get certain benefits, or have an HC2 certificate from the NHS Low Income Scheme
  • have a war pension exemption certificate (for the accepted disability)

Check before you tick the box on the back of your prescription: claiming when you’re not entitled can mean a penalty charge of up to £100. Check what you can get · Free NHS prescriptions
